Hi, friend,
I hope your July is treating you well. It’s hot this weekend in Portland, although given what kind of temperatures other parts of the US and the world are dealing with, I won’t complain.
One of the gifts of living in the Pacific Northwest is that summer temperatures can cool considerably overnight. Last night was like that. A still, bright, sunny day in the mid-90s became a breezy night in the low 60s and it felt like absolute heaven. A friend and I drove across the Columbia into Washington to see a metal show among the oak trees.
I love live music. So much.
So, there I was outside but in very close quarters with a large crowd of people, so unless I was drinking water, I was wearing my N95 and slathered in sunscreen and hoping that my chronic illness would allow me to make it through the whole concert.
As it turned out, the music took me away from hoping and worrying. And the thing that happens in a crowd with a common purpose and love, where everyone becomes a friend for the night, where rocked and sang together and people looked out for and took care of one another—it all came together.
I left the amphitheater with an open heart filled with enough magic to sustain me for a long, long while. I feel so grateful.
What fills you with magic? What sustains you?
Whatever it is, I’m wishing more of it for you and yours.
All my best,
Leslie
